How Best Odds Guaranteed Works
You take a fixed price before the race. If the official starting price is bigger, the bookmaker settles at the starting price; if it is smaller, you keep the price you took.
- It applies to win bets and, where stated, the win part of each-way bets; Virgin Bet applies it to each-way bets specifically.
- The guarantee runs from a start time on the day, usually morning, and ends at the off. Ante-post bets placed before the day are excluded.
- Bwin states it on all races; bet365, William Hill and BetVictor on UK and Irish racing; 10bet on UK racing; Fitzdares on selected days.
- It also covers greyhounds at some bookmakers; check the terms, since the racing pages of several bookmakers say horse racing only.
- There is no opt-in. The settlement is automatic once the starting price is returned.
Worked Example
A £10 win bet taken at 4/1 in the morning on a horse that drifts to a starting price of 6/1.
- Without the guarantee: the bet settles at 4/1 and returns £50, £40 profit plus the £10 stake.
- With the guarantee: the bet settles at 6/1 and returns £70, £60 profit plus the stake.
- If the horse had shortened to 2/1 instead, the bet still settles at the 4/1 taken, returning £50.
- The guarantee is worth most on horses that drift, which is why the terms cap the stake or the extra payout at most bookmakers.
Conditions to Check

- Maximum stake or maximum extra winnings: bookmakers cap the amount the guarantee can add, often per bet or per day.
- Price boosts, enhanced odds and free bets are excluded at most bookmakers; the guarantee applies to the standard price only.
- Cashed-out bets lose the guarantee.
- Rule 4 deductions for withdrawn horses apply to the starting price before the guarantee is calculated.
- Accounts restricted by the bookmaker can have the guarantee removed; the terms reserve the right.
